Is there any “Quran” verse about Imam Hussein [AS]?

Response:

Many Quran verses were sent down about “Ahl al-Bayt” specially Imam “Hussein” [AS]. Different books were written in this regard; and we mention to several verses which have been proved with valid documents that they were sent down about Imam “Hussein” and other “Ahl al-Bayt” [AS]:

1: “Mubahala” verse:

Those who dispute with you concerning him after the knowledge has come to you, say: 'Come, let us gather our sons and your sons, our womenfolk and your womenfolk, ourselves and yourselves. Then let us humbly pray, so lay the curse of Allah upon the ones who lie.    Sura AL-IMRAN/ 61

This verse shows high position of Imam “Hussein” [AS] with god and his messenger.

Narratives that indicate that this verse is about Imam “Hussein” [AS] are written in Sunni resources with valid documents.

“Muslim Neishapury” has quoted from “Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas” {prophet’s companion} that when “Mubahala” verse was sent down, prophet Muhammad [PBUH] called on commander of the faithful Ali [AS], “Fatimah” [AS], Imam “Hassan” and imam “Hussein” [AS] and prayed: god these are my “Ahl al-Bayt” {people of the house}:

“Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas” has quoted from his father that one day, “Muawiyyah bin abu Sufyan” ordered “Sa’d” to insult “Ali bin Abi Talib” [AS].

{Sa’d disobeyed}, “Muawiyyah” asked him: why don’t you curse “Ali”? “Sa’d” answered? Because I’ve heard three virtues about “Ali” [AS] from prophet [PBUH] that’s why I never insult him,  And if one of these virtues were mine it’d be better to me than red-hair camels…..

Third virtue is that: when “Mubahala” verse was sent down (فَقُلْ تَعالَوْا نَدْعُ أَبْناءَنا وَ أَبْناءَكُمْ) prophet [PBUH] called on commander of the faithful [AS], “Fatimah” [AS], Imam “Hassan” and imam “Hussein” [AS] and prayed: God! these are my “Ahl al-Bayt” {people of the house}.

Sahih Muslim, v4, p 1871, H No. 2404

“Termazy” has quoted this narrative as well and has restated that its document is valid:

“Sunan al-Termazy”- v5, p255

2: “Tathir” verse:

O family of the House, Allah only wishes to distance fault from you, and to cleanse you, and to purify you abundantly.   Sura AL-AHZAB/ 33

“Tathir” verse has been sent down about prophet [PBUH]’s “Ahl al-Bayt” {family of the house} that Imam “Hussein” [AS] is one of them and to prove that it was sent down about “Ahl al-Bayt” , we mention to some of valid-document narratives written in Sunni books:

First narrative from “Ayesha”:

It’s written in the most valid Sunni books {sahih Bukhari} and books confirmed by Wahhabism that “Tathir” verse has been sent down about “Ahl al-Bayt” including Imam “Hussein” [AS]:

“Ayesha” says: prophet left the house in the morning and there was a cloak patterned by black hair on his shoulder, then “Hassan bin Ali” came and prophet let him under the clock {put the cloak on him}, then “Hussein” came and prophet let him under the cloak, then “Fatimah” [AS] came and prophet let her under cloak same goes for “Ali” [AS]. Then he said: god wants to distance fault from you and purify you abundantly.

“Sahih Muslim”, v4, p1883

Second narrative from “Umm Salamah”:

“Umm salamah” one of prophet [PBUH]’s wives has said that this verse was sent down about “Ahl al-Bayt”:

“Umm Salamah”, prophet [PBUH]’s wife said: prophet put cloak on “Hassan”, “Hussein”, “Ali” [AS] and “Fatimah” and said: god, these are my “Ahl al-Bayt” and close relatives. Distance fault from them and purify them. I asked prophet that if I’m like them, he answered: you’re not my “Ahl al-Bayt” but you’re from virtuous.

“Tirmidhi” says:

It’s the best narrative quoted in this regard.

“Sunan Termazy”- v 5, p 699

Quoted by “Hakim Neishapuri”, “Umm Salamah” restates that “Tathir” verse was sent down in her house and prophet [PBUH] called on “Ali” [AS], “Fatimah” [AS], Hassan and Hussein [AS], when they came he prayed:

“Al-Mustadrak ala al-Sahihayn”- v2, p451

Third narrative from “Umar bin Abi Salamah”: {prophet’s stepson}

“Tirmidhi” quotes from “Umar bin abi Salamah”, prophet’s stepson that “Tathir” verse was sent down about “Ahl al-Bayt”:

“Sunan al-tirmidhi”- v5, p351

“Albani” says: this narrative is valid.

“Sahih al-Titmidhi”- v3, p 91

What interesting is that “Ibn Taymiyyah” says that narratives related to the cause of the revelation of “Tathir” verse are valid and restates on this matter:

“Hassan” and “Hussein” are amongst the biggest members of prophet’s “Ahl al-Bayt”, as it’s been proved in valid Hadith that prophet put his cloak on “Ali”, “Fatimah”, “Hassan” and “Hussein” and said: god, these are my “Ahal-Bayt”, so distance fault from them and purify them abundantly.

“Minhaj al-Sunnah al-Nabawiyyah”- v4, p561

Of course, other narratives were quoted but we adequate to mentioned narratives, there are some other narratives in which “Ahl al-Bayt” Reasoned this verse.

3: “Mawaddat” verse:

“Say: 'For this I ask of you no wage except the love of the (Prophet 's) relatives. We will add good to whosoever gains a good deed. Allah is the Forgiving and the Thanker”     Sura ASH-SHURA/ 23

Amongst Quran interpreter this verse is known as “Mawaddat” {loving}. There are numerous narratives in Sunni books that prove that this verse is about prophet [PBUH]’s “Ahl al-Bayt”.

“Ahmad bin Hanbal” quotes from “Ibn Abbas” that prophet was asked: who are those that it’s obligatory for us loving them? Prophet answered: “Ali”, “Fatimah” and her two sons:

“Ahmad bin Hanbal”- companions’ virtues- v2, p 669

“Tabarani” has quoted this narrative with the same document in his book.

 “Al-Mu’jam” al-Kabir”, v3, p47// v11, p444

In Sunni scholars’ opinion this narrative’s document is valid as well, as “Ibn Hajar Heithami” says:

“Ahmad”, “Tabarani” and “Ibn Abi Hatam” and “Hakim” have quoted from “Ibn Abbas” that when this verse was sent down, prophet was asked: O prophet! Who are your relatives that it’s obligatory for us to like them? Prophet said: “Ali”, “Fatimah”, “Hasan” and “Hussein”. There is “Ghali” Shia {Ghali is the one who exaggerate about his sect} but his honest.

Then he says a narrative quoted from Imam “Hassan” [AS] in which Imam [AS] has reasoned this verse:

“Bazar” and “Tabarani” have quoted from Imam “Hassan” via numerous ways that “Hassan bin Ali” [AS] recited sermon and said: I’m amongst prophet [PBUH]’s relatives whom god has made their love obligatory, then he recited this verse…..

“Heithami”- Sawaeq Muhraqah- v2, p487

4: verses from Sura “AL-INSAN”

Sura AL-INSAN/ 5-9

But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; (5) a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; (6) they who keep their vows and fear a Day whose evil is spread; (7)who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, (8) (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, (9)

These verses were sent down about commander of faithful [AS], Fatimah [AS], Imam Hassan and Imam Hussein [AS].

“Zamakhshari” says about the cause of the revelation of this verse:

“Ibn Abbas” says that “Hassan” and “Hussein” got ill, prophet [PBUH] visited them and said to “Ali” [AS]: O “Abu al-Hassan”, It’d be good if you performed “Nazr” {vow} for healing your sons. “Ali” [AS], “Fatimah” [AS] and “Fezzah” their maid vowed to fast three days if “Hassan” and Hussein” [AS] get healed. Both of them were healed soon. since they didn’t have enough food, “Ali” [AS] borrowed nine kilograms grain from “Simon” {Jewish guy}, and “Fatimah” made flour with one third of it and baked bread, at the time of “Iftar” {the meal eaten by Muslims after sunset during “Ramadan” that Muslims fast} a needy guy knocked the door and said: peace be upon you, O Muhammad’s dynasty! I’m a needy Muslim, please give me food, may god give you food from Heaven, they all preferred needy to themselves, and gave their shares to the needy and drank water at that night.

The fast on the second day and at the time of “Iftar” when they want to eat food, an orphan asked food and they gave orphan their food. {They drank water again as Iftar and fast next day}.

On the third day, a captive knocked the door at sun set asking food and they gave their food to that kaptive, in the morning “Ali” [AS] went to prophet [PBUH] along with Hassan” and “Hussein” [AS], prophet saw them shaking from intensity of hunger! He said: your state has made me so worried, then he went to “Fatimah” [AS]’s house and saw her worshiping while being so hungry, “Gabriel” came down and said: O Muhammad! Get this sura, God salutes you with such family, then “Gabriel” recited this sura “AL-INSAN”.

Tafsir al-Kashaf, v4, p670

This narrative that clarifies the cause of the revelation of these verses has been quoted by three of companions and Imam “Sadiq” [AS], of course, their quotations are different in some of details but it’s doesn’t hurt revelation of the verse, and the illness of Imam “Hassan” [AS] and Imam “Hussein” [AS] and the vow of commander of faithful [AS] and “Fatimah” [AS] and their healing:

A: “Ali bin abi Talib” [AS]:

“Hakim Haskani” has quoted this narrative via commander of faithful [AS] in the book “Shawahid al-Tanzil”- v2, p394:

B: Imam “Sadiq” [AS]:

“Haskani” has cited other documents as well that reach to Imam “Sadiq” [AS]:

C: “Ibn Abbas”:

Followings are those who have quoted this narrative from “Ibn Abbas”

1: “Mujahid”:

“Rooh al-Ma’ani”, v29, p157

“Fakhr Razi” writes:

“Wahidi” who is amongst our sahaba has cited this narrative in the book “Al-Al-Basit” that these verses are about “Ali” [AS] and the author of “Al-Kashaf” who is “Mu’tazilite” has cited this story.

“Haskani”- Shawahid al-Tanzil, v2, p403

D: “Zayd bin Arqam”:

Fourth person who has quoted this narrative is “Zayd bin Arqam”, he says that these verses are was sent down about Prophet [PBUH]’s “Ahl al-Bayt” after feeding needy; but he’s not mentioned to Imam Hassan [AS] and Imam “Hussein” [AS]’s illness:

“Shawahid al-Tanzil”- al-Hakim Haskani, v2, p408

Conclusion:

Since this narrative has been quoted via numerous ways {by different guys} we don’t need to look into its document and it’s a well-known matter amongst Shia and Sunni scholars and most of interpreters and narrators have written it in their books.

As “Ibn Taymiyyah” says the multiplicity of ways quotation {that different guys have quoted it} will strengthen each other and cause certain:

The multiplicity of  ways of quotation will strengthen each other in a way the that we make sure that {narrative} has been said; though its narrators are libertine and dissolute let alone being honest scholars.
