Is there any verse in the holy Qur’an pertaining to the allowance of supplicating to the dead?

A QUESTION BY; MANSUR EFTEKHARI

THE ELABORATION OF THE QUESTION

In the issue of resort in the list of the Shiite questions, the resort of the brothers of Yusef (Josef) to His Holiness Jacob as well as the resort to the holy prophet of GOD himself and the 10 cases as the holy Qur’an mentions took placed in the outward life of the holy prophets who were still alive, thus, I am looking for a verse that in which the resort to the dead has been presented

RESPONSE

The verse 14 of the chapter Nisa (The women)

And We did not send any apostle but that he should be obeyed by Allah’s permission; and had they, when they were unjust to themselves, come to you and asked forgiveness of Allah and the apostle had also asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah Oft-returning (to mercy), merciful.’’

(The chapter Nisa, verse 64)

As you can see going in the presence of the holy prophet of GOD to ask for forgiveness is a common term in this verse both includes in His Holiness’ existence as well as after his outward demise. The Sunnite scholars have presented amazing comments pertaining to this verse that

Then you should return to the initial position of the face of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) and resort to His Holiness pertaining to himself and ask him to interceded with Allah the Almighty

And of the most amazing comments are those of Maverdi, Qai Abu Tayeb and the other companions which have been quoted from Atbi and regarded them as adequate comments that he said; I was near the holy tomb of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) then a nomad came and said; peace and greeting to you O the holy prophet of GOD. I heard from Allah the Almighty (the statement of GOD in the holy Qur’an) when they did injustice to themselves then they come to you and ask forgiveness from Allah the Almighty and the holy prophet of GOD asks for their forgiveness as well then in fact, they will find Allah the Almighty the most merciful and Oft-returning. And I came here to ask forgiveness from Allah the Almighty and I take you as my mediator with my Lord then he said this poem that

O the best man who was buried in the best place and everywhere made fragrant due to the perfume of that place

My life will be sacrificed for the tomb in which you are placed, the absolute symbol of generosity, piety and forgiveness is buried there, then he came back. Then I went to sleep and in my dream I saw the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) then stated that O Atbi go to that nomad and say him this good news that Allah the Almighty has forgiven his sins

-Al-Majmu, Mohei Al-Din Al-Navavi, v 8 p 274

After pay tribute to Abu Bakr and Omar you should go to the house of Fatima Zahra to say Salam to her inside the holy shrine since according to some saying she was buried there but the more significant saying is that she was buried in Baqi then you should say greetings to you O the daughter of the selected holy prophet of GOD …and via her you resort to her father then you return to the first place in front of the holy face and say; All praise is due to Allah, the creators of the worlds. And O my Lord send your peace and greetings to our Lord Mohammad and his progeny. Greetings to you O the holy prophet of GOD. In fact Allah the Almighty has sent down His own book upon you and in which He has said that;

‘’ and We did not send any apostle but that he should be obeyed by Allah’s permission; and had they, when they were unjust to themselves, come to you and asked forgiveness of Allah and the apostle had also asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah Oft-returning (to mercy), merciful.’’ (the chapter Nisa, verse 64)

Then, I came in the presence of you while I am asking forgiveness for my sins and I want you to be my mediator with Allah the Almighty

-Eanat Al-Talebin, Al-Bakra Al-Damiyati, v 2 p 357

Then you go to the tomb and then you turn your face toward the holy tomb while your back is to Qeblah and you should say greetings O the holy prophet of GOD and peace, bless and mercy of GOD be upon you

O my Lord You have said and Your statements are right that’’ when they were unjust to themselves, come to you and asked forgiveness of Allah and the apostle had also asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah Oft-returning (to mercy), merciful.’’ (the chapter Nisa, verse 64)

Then, I came in the presence of you while I am asking forgiveness for my sins and I want you to be my mediator with Allah the Almighty

And then you should go nearer and say greetings to you O Abu Bakr

-Al-Moghana, Abdullah Ben Ghodame, v 3 p 590, 591

As it has been presented, the Sunnite scholars have concluded such a thing from this verse that they can ask forgiveness of the holy prophet of GOD whether in His Holiness outward existence or even after his demise

2, the existence of the holy apostles of Allah and the martyrs

We are going to define your response in another manner; were the apostles of GOD dead? And are our Aemah (Imams) dead either?

The existence of the holy prophets of GOD (peace be upon them) are a kind of life in an interval between death and resurrection which is superior to the existence of the martyrs that Allah the Almighty has stated pertaining to them that they are alive and receiving daily food from their Lord thus this issue has been proven through authentic sayings

-Al-Ayat Al-Bayenat Fi Adam Sama Al-Amvat, v 1 p 39, lel Alusi Al-Naman Ben Mahmud

For the same reason, Imam Sabki has said that; the existence of the holy prophets of GOD as well as the martyrs is the same as their own existence in this world

-Al-Sirat Al-Halabiye, v 2 p 432

And Allah of our Aemah (Imams) are martyrs and according to the verse 169 of the chapter A’lay Imran (The Family of Imran)

‘’and reckon not those who are killed in Allah’s way as dead; nay, they are alive (and) are provided sustenance from their Lord’’

One of the issues which has been said pertaining to the life of the apostles of GOD after their demises is that the apostles of GOD are superior than the martyrs and the martyrs are alive in the presence of their Lord thus the apostles are alive either

-Fatah Al-Bari, v 6 p 487

As it has been said the Sunnites believe that the apostles of GOD are indeed alive even after their outward demises

The holy prophet of GOD stated that; I saw or moved near to Moses in the night I have been elevated to heavens near a place in which there were a lot of red earth and he was standing and praying in his own grave

-Sahih Moslem, v 4 p 1845, Ketab Al-Fazael, chapter Min Fazael Musa Alaihe Al-Salam

There are various narrations have been mentioned even in Sahih Bokhari and Moslem pertaining to this issue as it has been quoted some of its instances and also Bayhaqi one of the Sunnite famous scholar has compiled some of them in the book Hayat Al-Anbia Baad Vafatehem ( the life of the apostles of GOD after their demises’’

And with respect to the explicit emphasis in the holy Qur’an pertaining to the allowance of resorting to the dead thus resorting to Aemah ( Imams) and the apostles of GOD after their demises are permissible as well
