Who performed the khotbe of the marriage of Hazrat Khadije and the messenger of God?

According to the Sunni and Shiite narrations, Hazrat Abu Taleb proposed marriage to Khadije and he fulfilled the khotbe of marriage himself. We will mention several Shiite and Sunni narrations about this matter.

The late Sheikh Sadugh has written in the book ' ' La Yahzare Al-Faghie ' '

 

وَ خَطَبَ أَبُو طَالِبٍ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ لَمَّا تَزَوَّجَ النَّبِيُّ (صلي الله عليه وآله وسلم) خَدِيجَةَ بِنْتَ خُوَيْلِدٍ رَحِمَهَا اللَّهُ بَعْدَ أَنْ خَطَبَهَا إِلَى أَبِيهَا وَ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَقُولُ إِلَى عَمِّهَا فَأَخَذَ بِعِضَادَتَيِ الْبَابِ وَ مَنْ شَاهَدَهُ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ حُضُورٌ فَقَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَنَا مِنْ زَرْعِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَ ذُرِّيَّةِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَ جَعَلَ لَنَا بَيْتاً مَحْجُوجاً وَ حَرَماً آمِناً يُجْبى‏ إِلَيْهِ ثَمَراتُ كُلِّ شَيْ‏ءٍ وَ جَعَلَنَا الْحُكَّامَ عَلَى النَّاسِ فِي بَلَدِنَا الَّذِي نَحْنُ فِيهِ ثُمَّ إِنَ‏ ابْنَ أَخِي مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ لَا يُوزَنُ بِرَجُلٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ إِلَّا رَجَحَ وَ لَا يُقَاسُ بِأَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا عَظُمَ عَنْهُ وَ إِنْ كَانَ فِي الْمَالِ قَلَّ فَإِنَّ الْمَالَ رِزْقٌ حَائِلٌ وَ ظِلٌّ زَائِلٌ وَ لَهُ فِي خَدِيجَةَ رَغْبَةٌ وَ لَهَا فِيهِ رَغْبَةٌ وَ الصَّدَاقُ مَا سَأَلْتُمْ عَاجِلُهُ وَ آجِلُهُ مِنْ مَالِي وَ لَهُ خَطَرٌ عَظِيمٌ وَ شَأْنٌ رَفِيعٌ وَ لِسَانٌ شَافِعٌ جَسِيمٌ فَزَوَّجَهُ وَ دَخَلَ بِهَا مِنَ الْغَدِ فَأَوَّلُ مَا حَمَلَتْ وَلَدَتْ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ (صلي الله عليه وآله وسلم)‏ .

 

When the messenger of God (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants) was talking to the father or uncle of Khadije in the marriage proposal ceremony of Hazrat Khadije, Abu Talen attended in the assembly of the Ghoreish Tribe and as he was holding two sides of the door of the room, he started the khotbe of marriage in this way

                               

' ' Thank God that considered us as the generation of Ibrahim and the progeny of Ismaeil and a house that people circle around it. Also, he considered a holy shrine that people bring blessings from around the world there and considered us as leader in his land ' '. Then he said ' ' no one is as good and great as my nephew, Muhammad Bin Abdullah Bin Abd Al-Motaleb among the people of the Ghoreish Tribe even if he is poor ( this is not considered as a problem) because wealth is temporary like shadow. His marriage with Khadije is a desire and Khadije is enthusiastic to marry him. I will take the responsibility of her dowry (whether in cash or not). He has a critical position, great personality, high rank and glib tongue.

 

He had Khadije marry him and on the next day, the messenger of God (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants) married her and their first child was Abdullah Bin Muhammad ( peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants).

This narration has been narrated in most of other Shiite books such as: Al-Kafi, Sheikh Al-Kalini( v 5 / p 374-375), Resale Fi Al-Mahar, Sheikh Al-Mofid ( p 29), Avali Al-Leali, Ibn Abi Jomhur( v 3 p 113)and…

 

Sunni sources

 

Most of Sunni scientists have narrated the narration of Khotbe fulfillment of Abi Taleb (peace be upon him). For example, Alusi has written in the book ' ' interpretation ' '

وقد صح أن أبا طالب يوم نكاح النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم خطب بمحضر رؤساء مضر . وقريش فقال : الحمد لله الذي جعلنا من ذرية إبراهيم وزرع اسماعيل وضئضىء معد وعنصر مضر وجعلنا حضننة بيته وسواس حرمه وجعل لنا بيتا محجوجا وحرما آمنا وجعلنا الحكام على الناس ثم أن ابن أخي هذا محمد بن عبد الله لا يوزن برجل إلا رجح به فإن كان في المال قل فإن المال ظل زائل وأمر حائل ومحمد من قد عرفتم قرابته وقد خطب خديجة بنت خويلد وبدل لها من الصداق ما آجله وعاجله من مالي كذا وهو والله بعد هذا له نبأ عظيم وخطر جليل .

 

Tafsir Al-Alusi, Al-alosi ,v 18, p 51

It is true that Abu Taleb fulfilled this khotbe in the day of the marriage of the prophet (peace of Allah be upon him and his descendants) in the presence of the heads of the tribes ' ' Mozer ' ' and ' ' Ghoreish ' ' .

 

Zomokhsheri , Sunni famous interpreter and scholar, has written

 

حضر أبو طالب نكاح رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم خديجة رضي الله عنها، ومعه بنو هاشم ورؤساء مضر، فقال الحمد لله الذي جعلنا من ذرية إبراهيم وزرع إسماعيل، وضئضئي معد وعنصر مضر، ...

Abu Taleb attended in the time of the marriage of the messenger of God and Hazrat Khadije (peace be upon her) and Bani Hashem and the heads of Mecca were with him. Abu Taleb said ' ' thank God has appointed us from the children of Ibrahim…

 

Mobarred has written in the book ' ' Al-Kamel ' '  

 

 

خطبة لأبي طالب :

وخطب أبو طالب بن عبد المطلب لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في تزوجه خديجة بنت خويلد رحمة الله عليها، فقال؛ الحمد لله الذي جعلنا من ذرية إبراهيم وزرع إسماعيل ، ...

 

He says at the end of it

 

وهذه الخطبة من أقصد خطب الجاهلية .
