Has the sentence ‘’ O my Lord, be the friend of whoever loves him…’’ an authentic proof in the Qadir narration?

A question by; Faeiz Momeni

The religious doubt

In Menhaj Al-Sonah, Ibn Taymiyyah says that;

The narration of Movalat has been quoted by Tarmazi and Ahmad Ibn Hanbal and for instance, Tarmai has quoted from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) in his Mosnad that; His Holiness stated : ‘’whoever I am his Mola (Imam) then Ali is his Molla’’ and in addition to this namely, this statement of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) that; ‘’ O, my Lord, love whoever loves him and hate whoever hates him’’ with no doubt, is a false statement which has been attributed to the holy prophet of GOD.

- Menhaj Al-Sonat Al-Nabavie, Ahmad Ibn Abd Al-Halim Ibn Teimie Al-Harani Abu Al-Abbas (died in 728 Hejira) v 7 p 319; published by: Ghortobat Institute; 1406 Hegira; first edition; researched by: D. Muhammad Reshad Salem

And Mohammad Ibn Abd Al-Vahab has called into question the narration of Qadir and the sentence ‘’ O, my Lord, love whoever loves him and hate whoever hates him’’ with blind eyes and merely in order to follow Ibn Taymyah in this way that;

And nothing more has been mentioned in the narration ‘’ whoever I am his Molla then Ali is his Molla’’ and everything else is a false statement

-Masael Lekhaseha Muhammad Ibn Abd Al-Wahhab, Muhammad Ibn abd Al-Wahhab (died in 1206 Hegira) v 1 p 154; published by: Matabe Al-Riyadh; First Edition; researched by: Abd Al-Aziz Ibn Al-Romi; D. Muhammad Boltaji; D. Sayyed Hejab

The critique and survey of the claim of Ibn Taymyah

One of the distinctive features of Ibn Taymyah Harani and his followers is the rejection of the Ahl Al-Bayt’s (peace be upon him) virtues and the narrations which have been mentioned in spite of their authentic proofs

However most of the Sunnite scholars and figures have quoted the holy narration of Qadir along with the sentence of ‘’O my Lord, love whoever loves him …’’ as well as acknowledged its accuracy, but we can see that Ibn Taymyah and his own followers have rejected and regarded as a false statement due to their opposition and enmity toward the commander of the faithful (peace be upon him)

Undoubtedly, if it proves that the sentence ‘’ O my Lord, love whoever loves him…’’ has an authentic proof based upon the Sunnite rules and the Sunnite scholars have acknowledged its accuracy throughout history then the falsity of Ibn Taymyah’s claim and as a result his hostility against the household of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) will be proved

More than 30 men of the companions have narrated this saying

Ibn Hojr Haythami who is one of the Sunnite influential scholars acknowledges that more than 30 men of the companions have quoted the narration of Qadir with the sentence ‘’ O my Lord, love whoever loves him…’’

The fourth narration (pertaining to the virtues of Imam Ali, peace be upon him) which the holy prophet of GOD stated in the day of Qadir that; ‘’ whoever I am his Molla then this Ali (peace be upon him) is his Molla and O my Lord love whoever loves him and hate whoever hates him and this is the narration of Qadir and as it has been said more than 30 men of the companions have quoted it from the holy prophet of GOD

-Al-Savaegh Mohreghe Ala Ahl Al-Rafz and Al-Zalal and Al-Zendeghe; Abu Abbas Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Ali Ibn Hajar Al-Heisami (died in 973 Hejira) v 2 p 353 and 355; Al-Fazl Al-Sani: Fi Fazala Razi Allah Anh Karam Allah Vajha; published by: Al-Resalat Institute; Lebanon; 1417 Hegira; 1997; First Edition; researched by: Abd Al-Rahman Ibn Abdullah Al-Torki; Kamel Muhammad Al-Kharat;

Ajluni who is one of the Sunnite outstanding scholar has emphasized upon this point in the book Kashf Al-Khafa that

The narration ‘’ whoever I am his Molla then Ali is his Molla’’ has been quoted by Tabarani, Ahmad Ibn Hanbal and Zya in the book Al-Mokhtarah (his eminent book) from Zayd Ibn Arqam and the commander of the faithful (peace be upon him) and from more than 30 men of the companions of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) with the words of the sentence ‘’ O my Lord, love whoever loves him and hate whoever hates him’’ and this narration is a frequent as well as a well-known saying

-Kashf Al-Khafa and Mazil Al-Abas Ama Ashtahar Min Al-Ahadith ala Sonat Al-Nas; Esmaeel Ibn Muhammad Al-Ajluni Al-Jarahi; (died in 1162 Hegira) v 2 p 361; published by: Al-Resalat Institute; Beirut; 1405 Hegira; fourth edition; researched by: Ahmad Al-Ghalash

And Jamal Al-Din Zayali who considers as one of the Sunnite great figures has mentioned the names of more than 10 men of the companions and says that; I saw further companions which quoted that narration

The ninth narration; Zamakhshari said that; the quotation of this narration is due to the prayer of the holy prophet of GOD pertaining to Ali who stated that; ‘’ O my Lord, hate whoever hates him’’

I (Zayali) say that; this narration of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his propgeny) has been quoted from Zayd Ibn Arqam (the companion) and Al-Bara Ibn Azeb (the companion), Saed Ibn Abi Vaqas (the companion) Talha Ibn Obayd Allah (the companion) Abi Saeed Khadri (the companion) Abi Horayrah (the companion) Anas Ibn  Bajali (the companion) Jaber Ibn Abd Allah (the companion) Hozayfah ibn Asid Al-Qefari (the companion) and Habashi Ibn Jonadah (the companion)  and in the book of Hafez Ibn Oqdah also I found some of the other companions (may GOD be pleased with all of them) that this narration has been quoted from them by Ibn Oqdah

-Takhrij Al-Ahadith and Al-Asar Al-Vagheat Fi Tafsir Al-Kashef Zemakhshari; Jamal Al-Din Abdullah Ibn Yousef Ibn Muhammad Al-Zeiali (died in 762 Hegira) v 2 p 234 to 244; published by: Dar Ibn Khezaime; Al-Riyadh; 1414 Hegira; First Edition; researched by: Abdullah Ibn Abd Al-Rahman Al-Saad

And Ibn Abd Al-Bar has mentioned some of the other companions who have heard and quoted this sentence from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny)

And Baridah, Abu Horayrah, Bara Ibn Azeb and zayd iBn Arqam all of them has quoted from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) that His Holiness stated in the day of Qadir that; ‘’ whoever I am his Molla then Ali is his Molla and O my Lord love whoever loves him and hate whoever hates him’’

-Al-Estiab Fi Marefat Al-Ashab; Yousef Ibn Abdullah Ibn Muhammad Ibn Abd Al-Bar (died in 463 Hegira) v 3 p 1099; published by: Dar Al-Jeil; Beirut; 1412 Hegira; First Edition; researched by: Ali Muhammad Al-Bajavi

Talmasani has numerated some of the other companions of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny)  who have heard and narrated this narration from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny)

And Boraydah Ibn Al-Hosayb, Abu Horayrah, Bara Ibn Azeb, Zayd Ibn Arqam and Jaber Ibn Abd Allah Ansari individually have narrated from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) that His Holiness stated in the day of Qadir Khom that; whoever I am his Molla then Ali is his Molla and O my Lord, love whoever loves him and hate whoever hates him

-Al-Joharat Fi Nasab Al-Nabi and Al-Ashabat Al-Ashrat, Muhammad Ibn Abi Bakr Al-Ansari Al-Telmasani known as Belbari; (died in 644 Hegira)  v 1 p 293

Is it possible to imagine that all of these numbers of the companions have told lie?

2, making special chapter to this sentence of Qadir narration

The second major action was that some of these scholars made a specific and single chapter pertaining to this prayer of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) ‘’ O my Lord, be friend  with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him’’ regarding the commander of the faithful (peace be upon him) in their own books years or rather centuries prior to the birth of Ibn Taymyah and its narration has been gathered below it and for instance we refer to two cases here

A, Ibn Haban (died in 354 Hejrah) the Sunnite famous scholar

Mentioning the prayer of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) pertaining to the friendship of whoever love Ali and enmity of whoever hates Ali

Abu Tofayl said that; Ali (peace be upon him) stated that I swear to GOD those who heard this statement of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) in the day of Qadir Khom (to bear witness what they have heard) and some men who were present in that meeting stood up and testified that they have heard that the holy prophet of GOD stated that; O Moslems, do not you know that (according to the holy Qur’an) I am more merit and worthy than the believers to themselves and Moslems said that; O the holy prophet of GOD, His Holiness stated that; whoever I am his Molla (leader) then this Ali (peace be upon him) is his Molla (Imam) and O my Lord be friends with whoever loves Ali and be the enemy of whoever hates him. Abu Tofayl says that; I left that meeting of Ali while I could not stand the statement of the holy prophet of GOD any more. And after that I saw Zayd Ibn Arqam (the companion) and I said to him the whole story and he said that; we heard from the holy prophet of GOD who stated that pertaining to Ali (peace be upon him)

-Sahih Ibn Heban betartib Ibn Bolban; Muhammad Ibn Heban Ibn Ahmad Abu Hatam Al-Tamimi Al-Basti; v 15 p 375; published by: Al-Resalat Institute; Beirut; 1414 Hegira; 1993; Second Edition; researched by: Shoaib Al-Arnowt;

B, Abu Bakr Ajari (died in 360 Hejrah)

The chapter of the holy prophet of GOD’s prayer pertaining to whoever is the friend with Ali Ibn Abi taleb (may GOD be pleased with him) and the curse of the holy prophet of GOD pertaining to whoever is the enemy of Ali

Zayd Ibn Arqam (the companion) said that; the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) stated that

Whoever I am his Molla then Ali Is his Molla and O my Lord, be the friend with whoever loves him and be the enemy with whoever hates him

-Al-Shariat, Abi Bakr Muhammad Ibn Al-Husain Al-Ajri (died in 360 Hegira) v 4 p 2049; published by: Dar Al-Vatan; Al-Riyadh; Saudi Arabia; 1420 Hegira; 1999; Second Edition; researched by: Dr. Abdullah Ibn Umar Ibn Soleiman Al-Damiji

3-the acknowledgment to the accuracy of its proof

Most of the Sunnite scholars themselves prior to Ibn Taymyah have emphasized upon the accuracy and authenticity of their own narrations and some of the others declared their narrations as authentic and valid ones and for instance, we are going to refer to 3 cases here

A, Abu Jafar Tahavi (died in 321 Hejrah)

He is the man that Zahabi says pertaining to him that

Imam, Allamah (highly knowledgeable man), the great Hafez (who knows the holy Qur’an by heart), narrator and Faqih (religious jurist) of Egypt, Abu Jafar Ahmad Ibn Mohamad Ibn Salamat Ibn Salamah Ibn Abd Al-Malek Azodi Hojri Mesri Tahavi Hanafi the writer of the works…

-Siar Alam Al-Nobala, Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Osman Ibn Ghaymaz Al-Zahabi Abu Abdullah (died in 748 Hegira) v 15 p 27; published by: Al-Resalat Institute; Beirut; 1413 Hegira; ninth edition; researched by: Shoaib Al-Arnowt; Muhammad Naeem Al-Arghasusi

Tahavi writes that;

Zayd Ibn Arqam said that; when the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) returned from Haj Al-Veda and arrived at Qadir Khom then his companions built a pulpit from the trunk of the trees as His Holiness ordered and then the holy prophet of climbed up that pulpit and stated that, my demise time is getting close and I am going to leave you while I will leave you two precious things which one is more merit than the other, the holy book of Allah the Almighty and my household Ahl Al-Bayt beware how do you want to treat them and these two never separate from one another until eventually they came to me beside the pond of Kothar then the holy prophet of GOD stated that; Allah the Almighty is my Molla and I am Molla of the whole believers and then he took the hand of Ali and stated that; whoever I am his Molla then this Ali is his Molla and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves Ali and be enemy with whoever hates him. Abu Tofayl says that; I said to Zayd Ibn Arqam that; did you hear from the holy prophet of GOD? He said; whoever were present there has seen with his own eyes and heard with his own ears

Abu Jafar said that; this narration is an authentic narration and no one is allowed to blame any of its narrators

This narration according to the rule of Bokhari and Moslem (to be accepted as an authentic narration) is a sound saying but they have not mentioned that in their own two books (Sahih Bokhari and Sahih Moslem) and the narration of Salamah Ibn Kahil from Abu Tofayl is that proof that it is an authentic narration according to the rules of Bokhari and Moslem

Amash has quoted from Saeed iBN Vahab from Ali (peace be upon him) that stated that; Ali (peace be upon him) stated that I swear to GOD those who heard this statement of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) in the day of Qadir Khom (to bear witness what they have heard) and Seed Ibn Vahab said that; 6 men who were besides me stood up and testified and Zayd Ibn Yathi said as well; 6 men beside me stood up… and the proof of this narration is authentic

Saeed Ibn Vahab and Zayd Ibn Yathi have quoted that; in the courtyard of the mosque Ali (peace be upon him) sworn those who heard the remarks of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) in the day of Qadir Khom and Abi Eshaq said that; 6 men stood up from the place Saeed Ibn Vahab was sitting as well as 6 men stood up from the place Zayd IbN Yathi was sitting and all of them bore witness that they heard from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) in the day of Qadir Khom that stated pertaining to Ali (peace be upon him) am not more merit than the believers to themselves? All of the people said; Yes. The holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) sated that; whoever I am his Molla then Ali is his Molla and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him and the proof of this narration is authentic

Abu Tofayl quotes that; in the courtyard of the mosque Ali (peace be upon him) gathered people and stated that; I swear to GOD every Moslem who heard this statement of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) in the day of Qadir Khom. Some men and Abu Naim said; most of the people stood up and bore witness that when the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) took the hand of Ali (peace be upon him) and stated that;   whoever I am his Molla then Ali is his Molla and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him. Abu Tofayl says that; I left that meeting while I was so unhappy with this statement of the holy prophet of GOD and after that I saw Zayd Ibn Arqam (the companion) and said to him that; I heard from Ali (peace be upon him) said something like this and that and Zayd iBn Arqam said that; do not reject that I myself heard from the holy prophet of GOD who stated that pertaining to Ali (peace be upon him) and the proof of this narration is authentic

The scholars after Ibn Taymyah

Later on, we are going to probe the actions of most of the Sunnite great scholars who all of them have lived in the same age of Ibn Taymyah or lived after him those who were familiar with this claim of Ibn Taymyah (namely from the middle of the 8 century and later)

These Sunnite scholars have undertaken 3 major actions pertaining to the sentence’’ O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him’’ as well

1, the quotation of the scholars saying prior to Ibn Taymyah

In this action the scholars prior to Ibn Taymyah have quoted the same narrations which have been quoted in the Sunnite authentic books in their own books such as

2, the correction and admission of the narration’s proof

The second major action which has been done by most of the Sunnite scholars after Ibn Taymyah was the acknowledgment to the frequency of the sentence ‘’ O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him’’ or considered that narration as an authentic or adequate saying with a valid proof and we suffice to some of these actions below

A, Zahabi who lived in the same age of Ibn Taymayah (died in 747 Hejrah)

Abu Tofayl has quoted  from Zayd Ibn Arqam that he said that; when the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) returned from Haj Al-Veda and arrived at Qadir Khom then his companions built a pulpit from the trunk of the trees as His Holiness ordered and then the holy prophet of climbed up that pulpit and stated that, my demise time is getting close and I am going to leave you while I will leave you two precious things which one is more merit than the other, the holy book of Allah the Almighty and my household Ahl Al-Bayt beware how do you want to treat them and these two never separate from one another until eventually they came to me beside the pond of Kothar then the holy prophet of GOD stated that; Allah the Almighty is my Molla and I am Molla of the whole believers and then he took the hand of Ali and stated that; whoever I am his Molla then this Ali is his Molla and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves Ali and be enemy with whoever hates him. Abu Tofayl says that; I said to Zayd Ibn Arqam that; did you hear from the holy prophet of GOD? He said; whoever were present there has seen with his own eyes and heard with his own ears

Our master Zahabi said that; this is an authentic narration

-Al-Sire Al-Nabavie Ibn Kasir, Abu Al-Feda Esmaeel Ibn Umar Ibn Kasir Al-Gharshi Al-Dameshghi (died in 774 Hegira) v 4 p 416; Al-Bedaya Vanahaya; Esmaeel Ibn Umar Ibn Kasir Al-Gharshi Abu Al-Feda; (died in 774 Hegira) v 5 p 209; published by: Maktabat Al-Maaref; Beirut

And it has been narrated from Zahabi that he said; the sentence ‘’ whoever I am his Molla then Ali is his Molla is a frequent narration and I believe that the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) has stated that; and the sentence ‘’ O my Lord, be friend with however loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him’’ (which has been mentioned after that) has an authentic proof as well

-Ruh Al-Maani Fi Tafsir Al-Ghoran Al-Azim and SabAl-Masani, Al-Alame Abi Al-Fazl Shahab Al-Din Al-Sayyed Mahmud Al-Alusi Al-Baghdadi; (died in 1270 Hegira)  v 6 p 195; published by: Dar Ehya Toras Al-Arabi; Beirut

B, Ibn Kathir Dameshqi Salafi (died in 774 Hejrah)

Saeed Ibn Vahab has quoted that Ali (peace be upon him) has stated that in the courtyard of the mosque that I swear to GOD whoever heard this statement of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) who stated that; in fact Allah is Molla of the whole believers and I am Molla of the whole Moslem as well and whoever I am his Molla then this Ali is his Molla and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves Ali and be enemy with whoever hates him, and this narration has been quoted by Shobah from Abu Eshaq as well and the proof of this narration is authentic

-Al-Sire Al-Nabavie Ibn Kasir, Abu Al-Feda Esmaeel Ibn Umar Ibn Kasir Al-Gharshi Al-Dameshghi (Died in 774 Hegira) v 4 p 419

C, Haythami one of the Sunnite distinguished figure of the 9 century (died in 807 Hejrah)

The chapter of the statement of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny); whoever I am his Molla then this Ali is his Mola’’

Rebah has quoted that some people came to Ali (peace be upon him) in the courtyard of the mosque and said to him; O hello to our Mola, and Ali (peace be upon him) stated that; how can I be your Mola while you are a group of Arab people? I heard in the day of Qadir Khom from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) that stated; whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola and Rebah sais that; when they went I followed them and asked from some men that who were they? They said that; these are some men of Ansars (the people of Medina) and also Abu Aub Ansari was among them. And this narration has been narrate by Ahmad Ibn hanbal and Tabarani with this different that group said; we heard from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) who stated that; whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him, and this is Abu Aub and while he was taking off his turban said that; I heard from the holy prophet of GOD who states that; whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola and O my Lord be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with however hates him’’ and the narrators of Ahmad Ibn Hanbal are authentic narrators

-Majma Al-Zavaed and Manba, Ali Ibn Abi Bakr Al-Heisami (died in 807 Hegira) v 9 p 103; published by: Dar Al-Rian Al-Toras ; Dar Al-Ketab Al-Arabi; Cairo; Beirut; 1407 Hegira

Amr Ibn Zemar, Saeed Ibn Vahab and Zayd Ibn Bathi said that; Ali (peace be upon him) stated that; I swear to GOD whoever heard the statement of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) in the day of Qadir Khom to bear witness and immediately 13 men stood up and testified that the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) stated that; am I more merit than the believers to themselves? All of the people said; Yes the holy prophet of GOD. His Holiness stated that; O my Lord whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him and hate whoever harbor grudge against him and aid whoever aids him and humiliate whoever humiliates him

And this narration has been quoted by Bazar while his narrators are all authentic except Fatar Ibn Kalifah who is an authentic narrator as well

-Majma Al-Zavaed and Manba, Ali Ibn Abi Bakr Al-Heisami (died in 807 Hegira) v 9 p 104 and 105; published by: Dar Al-Rian Al-Toras ; Dar Al-Ketab Al-Arabi; Cairo; Beirut; 1407 Hegira

Abd Al-Rahman Abi Layli said that; I saw Ali (peace be upon him) in the courtyard of the mosque who sworn the people and stated that; I swear to GOD whoever heard from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) in the day of Qadir Khom while he wa standing that; ‘’whoever I am his Mola then Ali is His Mola’’ Abd Al-Rahman Abi Layli said that; 12 men of the holy prophet of GOD’s companions who were present in the battle of Badr stood up as if I can see them while any of them have had a cover on their own heads and said that; we bear witness that we heard from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) in the day of Qadir Khom who stated that; am I more merit and worthy to the believers than themselves and my wives are not the mother of the Moslems? We said; Yes, O the holy prophet of GOD. Then His Holiness sated that; O my Lord, whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him and this narration has been quoted by Abu Yoli and all of its narrators are authentic ones

-Majma Al-Zavaed and Manba, Ali Ibn Abi Bakr Al-Heisami (died in 807 Hegira) v 9 p 106; published by: Dar Al-Rian Al-Toras ; Dar Al-Ketab Al-Arabi; Cairo; Beirut; 1407 Hegira

Zayd Ibn Arqam said that; Ali (peace be upon him) sworn people to GOD and stated that; I swear to GOD whoever heard this statement of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) in the day of Qadir Khom who stated that; whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola and O my Lord be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him’’ and immediately 12 men of the companions of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) who were present along with His Holiness in the battle of Badr stood up and born witness and I was those men who concealed this witness therefore I lost my sight and Tabarani has quoted this narration in their own two books Al-Mojam Al-Kabir and Al-Mojam Al-Osat but the lack of sight and the concealment of Zayd Ibn Arqam as well as the curse of Ali (peace be upon him) have not being mentioned there of course, in another narration which has been quoted by Tabarani Imam Ali (peace be upon him) has cursed who has concealed the witness and the narrators of Mojam Al-Osat are more authentic

-Majma Al-Zavaed and Manba, Ali Ibn Abi Bakr Al-Heisami (died in 807 Hegira) v 9 p 106; published by: Dar Al-Rian Al-Toras ; Dar Al-Ketab Al-Arabi; Cairo; Beirut; 1407 Hegira

Habashi Ibn Jonadah (the companion) said that; in the day of Qadir Khom I heard from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) who stated that; whoever I am his Mola then Ali is HIS Mola and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him and this narration has been quoted by Tabarani and all of its narrators are authentic narrators

-Majma Al-Zavaed and Manba, Ali Ibn Abi Bakr Al-Heisami (died in 807 Hegira) v 9 p 106; published by: Dar Al-Rian Al-Toras ; Dar Al-Ketab Al-Arabi; Cairo; Beirut; 1407 Hegira

Saeed Ibn Vahab has quoted that Ali (peace be upon him) has stated that in the courtyard of the mosque that I swear to GOD whoever heard this statement of the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) and Zayd said that; 6 men from the place of Saeed Ibn Vahab stood up and 7 other men from the place of Zayd Ibn Yathi stood up  and all of them born witness that in the day of Qadir he heard from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) who stated pertaining to Ali (peace be upon him) that; am I more merit to the believers than themselves? All of the people said; Yes, then the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) stated that; in fact Allah is Molla of the whole believers and I am Molla of the whole Moslem as well and whoever I am his Molla then this Ali is his Molla and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves Ali and be enemy with whoever hates him.

And these two narrations have been quoted by Abd Allah and Bazar in a more complete manner and the proofs of these two narrations are authentic

-Majma Al-Zavaed and Manba, Ali Ibn Abi Bakr Al-Heisami (died in 807 Hegira) v 9 p 107; published by: Dar Al-Rian Al-Toras ; Dar Al-Ketab Al-Arabi; Cairo; Beirut; 1407 Hegira

The second chapter; pertaining to the virtues of Ali (peace be upon him and may GOD be pleased with him) which are numerous and eminent then Ahmad Ibn Hanbal (the imam of Hanabalah) has said that;

So much virtues and precedence have been narrated pertaining to Ali (peace be upon him) which are more than any other companion’s virtues

The fourth narration (pertaining to the virtues of Ali peace be upon him); the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) stated in the Qadir Khom that; whoever I am his Mola this Ali (peace be upon him) is his Mola and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him and this is the narration and as it has been said 30 men of the companions of the holy prophet of GOD have stated that

D, Asemi Maki (died in 1111 Hejrah)

The concept of this narration as it has been mentioned in the book of Tabarani with an authentic proof is that; the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) in the day of 18 Za Hajjah when he was returning from Haj Al-Veda and in the Qadir Khom, under the shadow of the trees and after the noon prayer delivered a speech and stated that; O the people, … my demise is getting closer and very soon I am leaving you and you and us are responsible… then His Holiness stated that; O the people, Allah the Almighty is my Mola and I am  Mola of the believers and I am more merit to them than themselves… they said; Yes, the holy prophet of GOD then His Holiness stated that; whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him and aid whoever aids him and humiliate whoever humiliates him and accompany the truth with Ali wherever he is

And Albani one of the Sunnite contemporary scholars

He is one of those who made considerable efforts pertaining to this narration and probed some of its proofs and the way of its quotation

This narration has been quoted from (several companions such as) Zayd Ibn Arqam, Sad Ibn Abi Vaqas, Boridat Ibn Al-Hasib, Ali Ibn Abi Taleb (peace be upon him), Abu Aub Al-Ansari, Al-Bara Al-Azeb, Abd Allah Ibn Abbass, Anas Ibn Malek and Abi Horayrah (and we are going to refer to some of these men here)

1, the narration of Zayd Ibn Arqam which itself contains 5 ways of narration

The first way;

Abu Tofayl says that; I left that meeting while I was so unhappy with this statement of the holy prophet of GOD and after that I saw Zayd Ibn Arqam (the companion) and said to him that; I heard from Ali (peace be upon him) said something like this and that and Zayd iBn Arqam said that; do not reject that I myself heard from the holy prophet of GOD who stated that pertaining to Ali (peace be upon him) and Albani says that; this narration is an authentic saying according to the rules of Bokhari pertaining to the authenticity of the narration

Sad Ibn Abi Vaqas himself who has 3 ways of narration

The second way of narration

It has been narrated from Abd Al-Vahed Ibn Ayman from his father Sad Ibn Abi Vaqas who has quoted this narration through Nasai pertaining to the virtues of the commander of the faithful (peace be upon him) and its proofs are accurate as well and all of its narrators are the narrators of Bokhari except that Ayman the father of Abd Al-Vahed as it has been mentioned in the book Taqrib Al-Tahzib (Ibn Hojr Asqalani) (however he is not one of the narrators of Bokhari) he is an authentic narrator as well

Ali Ibn Abi Taleb (peace be upon him) who has 9 ways of narrations

The sixth way of narration

Abd Al-Rahman Abi Layli said that; in the courtyard of the mosque I saw Ali (peace be upon him) who sworn to GOD the people… this narration has been quoted from Abd Allah Ibn Ahmad in volume 1, page 119, from Yaid Ibn Abi Zyad and Samak Ibn Obayd Ibn Al-Valid Al-Absi from Abd Al-Rhaman Ibn Abi Layli

I (Albani) says that; this narration is an authentic narration even with respect to its 2 ways of quotation

And at the end he sums up his own comments

This narration has many other ways of quotation that Haythami has complied most of them in the book Majma Al-Zavaed, v 9, p 103 to 108. And I mentioned some of them as possible as I could the narrations that if someone see them and make research to them then he will make certain that their proofs are authentic. (and I could not mentioned the whole ways of the quotation) since, they are too many and Ibn Oqdah has written a  specific book pertaining to this narration and also complied all of the ways of this narration and Hafez Ibn Hojr has said pertaining to this narration that; some of these narrations are authentic and the other ones are sound in short; both parts of this narration (1, whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola) and (2, O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him) are authentic rather than the first part (whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola) has been successively narrated from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) and this fact will be evident for whoever make research to its proofs and ways of the quotation and this extent which has been mentioned is sufficient

-Al-Selselat Al-Sahihe v 4 p 249

The narration ( whoever I am his Mola then Ali ids his Mola and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him) is an authentic saying with respect to its proofs and the way of narration which are too many in this book and just look at the first narration of Abu Tofayl which its concept is that

when the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) returned from Haj Al-Veda and arrived at Qadir Khom then his companions built a pulpit from the trunk of the trees as His Holiness ordered and then the holy prophet of climbed up that pulpit and stated that, my demise time is getting close and I am going to leave you while I will leave you two precious things which one is more merit than the other, the holy book of Allah the Almighty and my household Ahl Al-Bayt beware how do you want to treat them and these two never separate from one another until eventually they came to me beside the pond of Kothar then the holy prophet of GOD stated that; Allah the Almighty is my Molla and I am Molla of the whole believers and then he took the hand of Ali and stated that; whoever I am his Molla then this Ali is his Molla and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves Ali and be enemy with whoever hates him. and this is an authentic narration.

-Al-Selselat Al-Sahihat – Mokhtsarat v 4 p 330

The narration ‘’ whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola and O my Lord be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him’’

Is the most authentic narration in high extent of the validity. And it has been quoted from the group of the companions that I have mentioned 7 narrations of them and for some of these saying there are more than one way of narration and I have set forth all of its ways of narration as well as l talked about their proofs in the book Selselah Ahadith Sahihah

-Zelal Al-Janat v 2 p 338

Bara Ibn Azeb said that; we were returning along with the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) from Haj ceremony and we stopped in one of the place in the middle of the road and the holy prophet of GOD ordered to perform the noon and afternoon prayers together and then His Holiness took the hand of Ali (peace be upon him) and stated that; am I more merit to the believers than themselves? They said that; Yes, His Holiness stated that; am I more merit to any believer than himself? They said; Yes. Then he stated that; whoever I am his Mola then this Ali is his Mola and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him and this narration is an authentic saying

-Sahih Ibn Maje v 1 p 26; hadith no 113

3, the critique of the claim of Ibn Taymyah

In addition to the above-mentioned actions some of the Sunnite scholars who have lives after Ibn Taymyah undertook the third action as well and that is they have explicitly criticized and rejected the claim of Ibn Taymyah pertaining to the falsity of the sentence’’ O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him’’ and those who rejected his claim are;

1, Ibn Hojr Maki (died in 947 Hejrah) one of the outstanding figures of Sunnite narrators and scholars

-Al-Savaegh Al-Mohreghe Ala Ahl Al-Rafz and Al-Zalal and Zendeghe, Abu Abbas Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Ali Hajar Al-Heisami;  (Died in 974 Hegira) v 1 p 164 ; published by: Al-Resalat Institute; Lebanon; 1417 Hegira; 1997; First Edition; researched by: Abd Al-Rahman Ibn Abdullah Al-Torki; Kamel Al-Khatat

-Merghat Al-Mafatih Sharh MEshkat Al-Masabih, Ali Ibn Soltan Muhammad Al-Ghari (Died in 1014 Hegira) v 11 p 258; published by: Dar Al-Kotob Al-Elmie; Lebanon; Beirut; 1422 Hegira; 2001; First Edition; researched by: Jamal Itani

And this statement of some people that said; the additional sentence of ‘’ O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him’’ is a false and forge sentence is not true since this additional sentence has been mentioned from some ways of narrations that Zahabi has regarded authentic and accurate

C, Borhan Al-Din Halabi (died in 1044 Hejrah)

  -Al-Sire Al-Halabie Fi Sire  Al-Amin Al-Mamun, Ali Borhan Al-Din Al-Halabi (Died in 1044 Hegira) v 3 p 336; published by: Dar Al-Marefat; Beirut; 1400

D, Albani one of the Sunnite influential and contemporary scholars

After mentioning the proofs and the various ways of the narration ‘ whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him’’ reached to this conclusion and writes that;

The abstract of this statement; both parts of this narrations (1, whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola , and O my Lord, be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him) are accurate rather than the first part of this narration has been successively narrated from the holy prophet of GOD (peace and bless of GOD be upon him and his progeny) and this point will be evident for whoever makes research to the proofs and the quotation ways of this saying and to to this extent I have mentioned would be sufficient

And after that conclusion, then immediately he mentioned his own intent pertaining to the probe of the proofs of that saying

Now after realizing the proofs and the quotation ways of this saying I have to say that; my real purpose of writing this point pertaining to this narration and mentioning its accuracy is that; I saw Shakh Al-Islam Ibn Taymyah has consider the first part of this saying (whoever I am his Mola then Ali is his Mola) as a weak narration as well as he thought that the second part of this narration (O my Lord be friend with whoever loves him and be enemy with whoever hates him) is false and forge one. In my view, the real intent of his claim is his exaggeration to weaken the narrations prior to gathering the proofs and the quotation ways of that sayings and meditation and attention to them

-Al-Selselat Al-Sahihe v 4 p 249

At the end I say that; have Ibn Taymyah and Mohammad Ibn Abd Al-Vahab seen these Sunnite first-hand sources as well as their own scholars’ views prior to them (as Albani said) to talk about these points in such a manner and have disgraced themselves in the people’s eyes and if so then this indicate their deep ignorant pertaining to the Sunnite narrative texts or maybe they have seen them but…
